About us

A clearer, calmer place to understand your taxes

Union of Taxpayers is an independent, non-partisan platform for India's taxpayers — a place to understand taxes in plain language and to share constructive feedback on tax policy.

Why we exist

Almost everyone pays, but few feel heard

In India, nearly everyone is a taxpayer. Salaried workers and businesses pay income tax. And through GST, people pay tax on almost everything they buy — from a phone recharge to a restaurant meal. Tax is woven quietly into daily life.

Many groups in our economy have organised associations that speak for them. Taxpayers, as a group, rarely have a single, constructive place to understand the rules that affect them or to offer feedback in a measured way.

At the same time, tax rules can feel complex and intimidating. We think that is a problem worth working on, patiently and carefully.

Our aim is simple: help people understand taxes without jargon, and give them a civil, fact-based way to share what they think.

What we do

Plain-language understanding, and a place to be heard

Plain-language guides

Explainers that translate rules into everyday language, with sources and review dates.

Calculators

Simple income tax, GST, HRA and capital-gains calculators for quick estimates.

Deadlines

A view of important tax dates so nothing important slips by unnoticed.

Tax Insights

Original, carefully researched explainers on income tax, GST, TDS, deductions, the Budget and public finance.

Constructive feedback

A respectful channel to share suggestions and views on tax policy.

Honest limits

Where something is uncertain or planned, we say so rather than overstating it.

What we value

The principles that guide us

Transparency

We explain where our information comes from and distinguish official rules from our own explanation.

Fairness

We write for ordinary taxpayers, not for any party or interest group, and we try to represent different situations honestly.

Responsibility

Tax touches people's money and plans, so we take accuracy seriously and flag anything we are unsure about.

Respectful dialogue

Feedback on tax policy should be constructive and civil. We keep the conversation grounded in facts.

Independence

We are an independent platform. We are not affiliated with the government or any political organisation.

Accuracy

Reliable, carefully reviewed information matters more than publishing quickly or in large volume.

Who is behind it

Two co-founders, building step by step

Union of Taxpayers was started by two co-founders, Pankaj Choudhary and Puneet Singh. We are building this gradually and openly, and we would rather grow it carefully than rush.
