Who we are
Union of Taxpayers is an independent fiscal-transparency platform. We are not a government body. For the purposes of data-protection law, the operator of this website is the “data controller”.
What we collect
- Account details — if you create an account, your name, email address and a securely hashed password.
- Messages you send — the name, email, topic, subject and message you submit through the contact form.
- Saved articles — the articles you bookmark while signed in.
- Basic technical data — standard server logs (such as a hashed form of your IP address for abuse-prevention) and your browser type.
We do not ask for sensitive information, and we do not need your real financial figures — the calculators run entirely in your browser.
How we use information
- To provide the service — signing you in, saving your bookmarks and replying to your messages.
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse of forms.
- To understand, in aggregate, which content is useful so we can improve it.
Cookies and advertising
We use a small number of cookies that are necessary for the site to work, such as keeping you signed in. This site may display advertising through Google AdSense, which can use cookies to serve and measure ads. You can control cookies through your browser settings and your Google ad settings.
Who we share with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site (for example hosting and email delivery), and only as needed to provide the service, or where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep account data for as long as your account is active, and contact messages for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and keep a reasonable record. You can ask us to delete your account.
Your choices and rights
You can access, correct or delete your account information from your profile settings, or by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the “last updated” date above when we do.
